Providing sustainable flood protection to Upper Garnock Valley.
Since the late 1800s, Upper Garnock Valley has flooded with properties in Kilbirnie, Glengarnock and Dalry affected by the events.
The state-of-the-art scheme was designed to reduce the flood risk from the River Garnock, Powgee Burn and Rye Water.

FLOOD PROTECTION
The project included the construction of an 300m earth dam to form a flood attenuation reservoir on the River Garnock, north of Kilbirnie.
Works also involved the creation of flood defences to protect an industrial estate in the Paddockholm area of Kilbirnie as well as the installation of a new flood wall to protect the railway line and nearby low-lying properties on the Powgree Burn in Glengarnock.
Finally, a sheet pile flood wall and other measures were also installed around the Mill Park residential estate in Dalry.
Residents were also given the opportunity to name the new Upper Storage Area. With residents voting on Facebook, the overall winner was Robin Dam, with Garnock Dam coming in second and Ladyland Dam third. The winning name is tied to the Robin Pool where generations of local people met while enjoying swimming, fishing and walks along the river.
