Yesterday the new Allander Leisure Centre opened its doors to the public. McLaughlin & Harvey has completed the initial phase of construction of the new leisure centre which was procured via the Scape framework. The development of the Allander is part of a £42.5 million investment by East Dunbartonshire Council.
Visitors to the new Allander can enjoy:
- A 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool and 20m training pool with movable floor
- Sauna and steam vitality room
- Hydrotherapy pool
- Gym and high & low intensity studios
- State-of-the-art spin room
- Eight-court games hall
- Two squash courts
- Wet and dry changing facilities
- Café
In addition, there is a new support facility for adults with learning disabilities – replacing Kelvinbank Resource Centre in Kirkintilloch – which will open on 9 March.
The facility will include:
- Flexible meeting rooms, quiet spaces and office
- Dementia, rebound, sensory and physiotherapy treatment rooms
- Arts & crafts, dance and music rooms
- Changing rooms
- Kitchen facilities
Phase two of the project involves the demolition of the old centre and the construction of a new ‘Sports Dome’, offering two football pitches and a tennis court.
McLaughlin & Harvey is delighted to have worked in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council to continue the legacy of sporting excellence at Allander Leisure Centre. This state-of-the-art facility sets a new quality benchmark for leisure delivery in Scotland, benefiting residents of East Dunbartonshire and beyond. The addition of the Allander Adult Learning Disability Day Service into the new building will be a real benefit to the community, enhancing learning for all and encouraging inclusive participation in sports and physical exercise.
