The journey to transform Dundee’s Bell Street multi-storey car park into a green transport hub has been outlined to a Westminster minister.

Alex Norris MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, visited Dundee to see how the project intends to aid people’s transition to sustainable forms of transport in the future.

The Green Transport Hub & Spokes initiative was allocated £14.4 million from the previous UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Recently, the city council approved an £11milion tender for the main part of the initiative, following £4.5m of enabling works.

It was a pleasure to be here in Dundee and to find out more about this ambitious project to create a green transport hub.

Accelerating the journey to net zero is a key part of this government’s Plan for Change, and projects such as this are vital in helping us achieve this.

The hub will accommodate infrastructure to provide people with access to sustainable transport options that improve connectivity and make the city centre greener, safer, and a more attractive place to live, work and visit.

The main works, which are being carried out by contractor McLaughlin & Harvey Construction will include:

• Installation of Electrical Vehicle Chargers supported by a solar panel array on the roof with a battery storage system.
• A full mechanical and electrical upgrade, as well as the installation of new feature cladding and construction of a ground floor cycle storage and bike reuse centre
• Enhanced landscaping with active travel routes designed with consideration of future active travel connections and development.

The project has been procured through the SCAPE Framework.
