McLaughlin & Harvey has successfully handed over their Cottingwood Infrastructure project to Homes England.
The project involved the construction of a 1km single-carriage spine road through a mixture of farmland and historical hospital estate to open the land for the future development of over 800 houses in Morpeth.
Works also included the installation of extensive utilities along the road corridor to service the future housing development, as well as the creation of cycle ways, pathways, traffic calming measures and associated soft landscaping works.
Ground conditions were challenging with areas of clay overlying running sands, but approximately 30,000m3 of material was reused on-site by utilising lime and cement mixtures to achieve works specification as required.
This project has been challenging due to existing ground conditions and weather conditions. McLaughlin & Harvey has been committed to finding solutions throughout the project and the collaborative approach adopted has ensured we were able to hand over to Homes England successfully. The infrastructure project unlocks potential for future housing developments and ensures access to cycle and pathways that will support physical wellbeing in the local area.
